Kurmi (the name means 'mole'in Latvian) is a 200-year old farmhouse  in a clearing in the forest with a few other small farms. It has 11.5 acres of land and a barn with it.

The house is of traditional squared-log construction with a wooden shingle roof, on one storey. It covers 208 square metres floor area and can sleep up to 10 people in 3 bedrooms, with 2 sofa beds in the sitting room. It has water from its own well, septic drainage, electricity and telephone. It is heated by wood stoves of traditional style and also has a wood-fired bread oven. Cooking is by wood stove or electric cooker. It has a lavatory and bathroom. It has been recently renovated with new wiring, improved insulation, some new windows, repairs to walls and plaster, a complete redecoration and full furnishing.

There is a separate sauna building which can be rented separately, with a room for socializing and a changing/shower room as well as the sauna itself, while outside there is a deck. It is possible to plunge in the nearby pond after heating oneself up in the sauna - just jump in in summer or dip through a hole in the ice in winter.

The house sits on a knoll overlooking the river Gauja headwaters. It is quiet and tranquil. Access is along a gravel road which leads on past the house to another farm and into the forest. The area is full of wildlife. Wolves live in the extensive forest area to the north, while storks make their nests on the electricity poles and nightingales sing in the summer. Elk and deer, lynx and wild boar also live in the forest. Birds of prey abound and many types of fish live in the river.

Activities that are possible around Kurmi include walking in the forest, cross-country skiing in the winter (skis are available at the house), cycling, bird watching, fishing, hunting (with a permit) and visiting historical attractions nearby or further afield.

The house is available to rent, for short or long periods, for up to 8 people, all year round.
