Curriculum Vitae

Simon Bell is a specialist in large-scale landscape planning and design. He has at the forefront of the development of this area both in the UK and internationally. His expertise can be divided into forest landscape design, where the emphasis is on the visual and aesthetic aspects of forestry, forest landscape ecology, where the planning method focuses on how forest landscapes function, forest recreation planning and design aldn landscape and visual impact assessment. He has published many books and papers on these subjects and has a wide range of project experience gained in the UK and abroad. He is also involved in developing and presenting training courses in these subject areas.

Simon is Professor and head of the Department of Landscape Architecture in the Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the Estonian University of Life Sciences in Tartu, Estonia.

Simon is also Associate Director of OPENspace, the Research Centre for Inclusive Access to outdoor Environments based at Edinburgh College of Art/, Edinburgh.

Simon is also available for consultancy in any of these fields described above, anywhere where his expertise can be put to good use.
